Unplug to Reconnect: The Power of a Digital Detox

In today’s fast-paced world, our lives are dominated by screens—smartphones, laptops, tablets, and TVs. While technology keeps us connected and informed, it’s also silently draining our energy, focus, and peace of mind.

A digital detox is the act of taking a break from all digital devices. And trust me, your mind desperately needs one.

Here’s why:

---

🌱 1. Mental Clarity Improves

Constant scrolling floods your brain with endless information, making it hard to focus. A digital detox clears the mental fog and brings back clarity and sharpness.

---

πŸ’¬ 2. Real Conversations Return

When you put your phone down, you look up. You talk, you listen. Relationships become deeper, and human connections feel real again.

---

😴 3. Better Sleep

Blue light from screens disturbs your sleep hormones. A detox helps your body reset its natural rhythm, letting you sleep deeper and wake up fresher.

---

πŸ“– 4. You Discover “You”

Without the distractions of social media or Netflix, you rediscover your thoughts, hobbies, and passions. Maybe you’ll pick up that book again—or even start writing one.

---

🧘 5. Less Anxiety, More Peace

Likes, comments, and messages constantly pull us in. A digital break calms the mind, reduces anxiety, and increases inner peace.

---

✅ Quick Tips for a 1-Day Detox:

Turn off all social media apps.

Go outside—walk, garden, or sit in the sun.

Talk to someone face-to-face.

Write your thoughts in a journal.

Read something on paper, not on a screen.

---

πŸ’ Final Thoughts:

Technology is amazing—but too much of anything is harmful. A small break can do wonders for your mind, body, and soul.

So go ahead, unplug for a day—and reconnect with life.

Two Traveling Angels

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole on the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied..."Things aren't always what they seem". The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.

When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel "how could you have let this happen!? The first man had everything, yet you helped him," she accused. "The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let their cow die."

"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it. Then last night as we slept in the farmer's bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave her the cow instead. Things aren't what they seem." Sometimes that's exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should.

The Red Alert

When Ahmad returned home, his wife Maryam was still out. He sat down next to his children and joined them in their game. Afterwards, he picked up a book and passed the time reading. Finally at 10 o’clock that evening his wife returned home. She did not even allow Ahmad to greet her, but quickly rushed passed him to her room and took off the mask that transfigured her natural form. She looked less beautiful but more gentle. From her behavior, Ahmad knew that she had something to tell him.

As soon as the children went to bed, she said to her husband, “Oh, Ahmad, you have not asked me about my visiting today.”
Ahmad smiled and said, “I hope you have enjoyed yourself.”
Maryam said, “…I had a wonderful time! The house and the garden were magnificent, and their table was rich with delicious foods. My friend, Hana, had the most beautiful wig. Dr. Iram’s wife wore an expensive suit. It was quite beautiful.”
Her husband smiled ironically and asked, “The suit or the Dr.’s wife?”
“Oh, the suit was wonderful! But I was too embarrassed to enjoy the visit,” she added. Ahmad silently beseeched Allah to give him patience and said to himself,” This is just the beginning; Allah will help me in the end.” He did not answer his wife’s remarks. She continued, “It seems as if you do not care for me. Am I nothing to you? You do not ask the reason for my uneasiness. You regard me as if I were a stranger.”
Maryam seemed truly upset, so her husband said to himself, “I place my affairs before Allah. If I do not ask her the reason, she will cry.”

He gently asked her, “Why do you think such a thing? You are my dear wife and the mother of my children. Why are you upset? Were you embarrassed by your clothing?”
“Oh no, although it was not as beautiful as the Dr.’s wife’s suit. I can buy a better one in the future. The source of my uneasiness has been in my failing to ask my friends to visit me. It has been a long time since I last invited them to my home. How would they account for such delay? Surely they will think it is due to some financial hardship, or that you are a miser or ignorant of social formalities. Such ideas hurt me, since I know you are an excellent husband and a good father.”
“Thank you for the compliment. Now what exactly do you want?”
Maryam replied, “Today is the fifth of the month. I can fix a day for their visit as long as we can afford to spend some money.”
“You talk as if the event is a victorious battle in need of great preparation,” Ahmad said. His wife laughed, “No. it is not like that, but it doest cost….”
Ahmad said, “But how can we manage until the end of the month if your party will be expensive? We are already in debt. Now you want to make matters worse.” “You can borrow some money from your friends,” his wife suggested. “You know I have borrowed from many of them. How can I ask for more?”
“Oh, how miserable I am! I was brought up in a rich family and lived a luxurious life. Now I cannot even afford to invite my friends over for an afternoon. Oh, what a shame! How am I to face them? Can I show myself in society? This means I must isolate myself and give up all of my friends.” Maryam started crying, while her husband tried to convince her of his viewpoint. She never listened to him, but said, “Oh, surely I shall suffer from sickness. If I stay two days at home, I shall suffer a nervous breakdown and lose my appetite.”

Finally, Ahmad gave in and agreed to his wife’s demand. His wife arranged everything for the special day. She asked her sisters to help her arrange the rooms for the occasion. She would have never imagined that the outcome of her party could be the destruction of her family life. On the day of the party, Maryam asked her husband to stay out until a late hour and she sent her children to her mother’s house. She got herself ready for her guests, who arrived shortly before sunset. They were all dressed in the latest fashion and with full makeup. The home was soon filled, and gossip and idle speculation dominated the conversation. Each was criticized by the other. One’s dress was not to the taste of the other; and this hairdo was not nice as another’s. Silly talk and jokes filled the air.
At 8 o’clock, Maryam called her guests to dinner. Suddenly the phone rang and one of the guests was called. As soon as this lady put down the phone, she came to Maryam and apologized for having to leave at once. Her husband had warned of a red alert and she had to reach home before the lights went out. Upon hearing this news, the other guests rushed towards the door. They left without even a good-bye. Maryam emerged from the kitchen to see that her guests had all disappeared. She was shocked and dismayed to see her party come to such an end, especially when she thought about all the trouble she had gone to and the dispute with her husband about the matter. She had hoped to make a good impression on her friends. She sat down and wept bitterly. She wished her husband would come home early, before the red alert sounded. She waited to hear its wailing but there was none.

At 10 o’clock Ahmad came and was surprised to see the house empty. His wife told him the whole story. She feared that he would be angry, but he was quite at ease. He said, “It may be a lie. There is no need for an alert since there are no impending raids. Anyway, I hope you have learned a lesson.”
The wife said, “Indeed, I have. I won’t undergo such an experience again.”
The next day, Maryam’s friend phoned and apologized for the previous evening. Her husband had lied to her in order to get her home early since her child had been crying for his mother.
Maryam told her friend that it had been a silly joke, but a good lesson too

Feeling Lost After a Breakup? 5 Tips to Find Balance and Bounce Back

Does a relationship breakup have you feeling like you’re teetering on a tight rope about to fall off at any moment? A bad relationship slowly chips away at your self esteem and a bad breakup can destroy it with only a few words. Even once the initial shock subsides, your head can feel so fuzzy that you don’t know where to start to bounce back to your formerly happy self.

We sat down with Brett Blumenthal of Sheer Balance to get her expert tips for helping you find balance in the chaotic aftermath of a relationship breakup.

1.     See yourself as an individual, not as half a person

While it’s terrifying to let go of the past, you need to detach from your former flame in order to find the person you lost in all that kissing, baby talk and hand holding. YOU! Get out of town for the weekend. You can’t make yourself healthy until you remove yourself from the destructive grasp your ex has on you. Break the spell by starting with your mind. Relationships naturally force you to neglect yourself by sacrificing your likes and making compromises. You’re used to being around your ex all the time so it might be scary to set out on your own, but this alone time will allow you to take a step back to sort out your feelings without falling under someone else’s influence. Then you can discover what’s really important to you in starting the next chapter.

2.     Take small steps to make big changes

If you’ve neglected your own well being in a bad relationship, taking a step by step approach to better yourself mentally and physically is key. When you’re feeling down and everything seems out of place it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. The first step is to make a list of everything you want to change. Then you can prioritize which goals are most important to you. By making this list it will become clear to you how to go about making these changes. Break down each goal into pieces that aren’t so intimidating. By taking small steps you can actually tackle multiple goals at once. If you try to make a big change overnight, you’re most likely going to fail which will only discourage you from trying again. Allow yourself the time to make these changes.

3.     Accept that you’re going to slip up

Of course you’re going to be hard on yourself when trying to make positive changes in your life. But if you acknowledge in advance that you’re going to experience setbacks, you can keep them from really getting to you. It’s okay to take a step back as long as you then take two or three forward. One step back isn’t a big deal if you can catch yourself before it multiplies so don’t let it throw you completely off course.

4.     Seduce yourself

It sounds clichΓ©, but when you love yourself and you’re secure as an individual you’re more likely to have a healthier, happier relationship. Consider being single as dating yourself. Your top priority becomes making yourself happy. This shouldn’t change when you dive into your next relationship. Make sure your new flame takes care of you the way you take care of yourself. If they don’t live up to your standards, recognize this as a red flag.

5.     Think ahead to the next chapter

You have the ability to write it any way you want. Even when a relationship is bad we tend to want it to work so we give up parts of ourselves. This is your chance to rediscover what defines you and what you want in a future partner. It’s crucial to not lose sight of those interests when you start dating again. If you get so caught up that you neglect friends, family and hobbies, it causes your world to spin out of control when it ends. Always carve time for yourself to nurture these relationships and talents separate from your partner. That’s what’s going to carry you through, no matter what happens in your love life.

Womens Casual Clothing Fashion Tips

Whether you're considered a soccer mom chic or college dorm student comfort is always on the forefront of your mind, the trick to dressing in womens casual clothing everyday with style is to know how to keep from looking sloppy.

For those lucky enough to dress in womens casual clothes everyday, the challenges could be many, but a few larger ones are, how to build a core wardrobe of basics with enough variety to keep it from getting boring and how to match these varieties without looking like a slob.

Here are some tips to help women build their casual attire:

Buy your casual clothes the same way you would buy career clothes: always thinking about building your best womens casual attire wardrobe. For example, when choosing your casual wear for women, choose cohesive pieces and build them around basic styles. For casual clothing the best approach is three colors for the best mix-and-match wardrobe - khaki, denim, tan; black, khaki, white; etc.

And please don't forget about a great casual shoe because nothing kills a chics sporty casual attire like a pair of white running shoes. Stick with a pair of boots or sandals, etc. You probably won't get stopped by the "bad wardrobe police" with boots and they go with almost all casual clothing.

Use casual accessories and handbags -- especially when it comes to casaul wear for women. No two worlds are more distant from one another than the classic look and womens casual attire. Please don't try to mix a gold and diamond watch with a sweatshirt unless you're Queen Latifah. Try to stay away from mixing styles.

Keep your casual clothes in good shape -- don't be lazy if they need to be ironed then iron them, if they need to be cleaned then clean them, you get the point.

Stay far away from womens casual wear cliches - like baggy sweats. Baggy sweats is for lounging around the house only and if you are certain no one will see you out of your standard casual clothes. Remember today you might have a reputation to up hold. Instead, opt for some in style womens attire, a great track suit that comes with a strong fitted look in fun colors and rich fabrics like velour or terry.

Don't get ridiculous or outrageous about casual attire for women. Remember it is just a style which can be fun and look good at the same time. So, if you're working in the garden or cleaning the house, then wear whatever works for you and leave your casual clothes for those right days.

The Photography Portfolio: Building Your Reputation

If you have hopes of becoming a professional photographer, or even just of trying to get your work published in a public forum, you will need to create a photography portfolio. So what’s so important about a photography portfolio anyway?

There are many reasons why having a portfolio of your work available for others to view. If you are seeking employment as a photographer, then the need for a portfolio is obvious. If you are not seeking a photography job, there are still good reasons to have a portfolio. For one, you love photography and you take a lot a pride in your work. They are important to you. Most likely, some of them are very good. Why not create a portfolio that showcases your best work so you can show it to others (even if it’s just friends or family that comes over for a visit)?

Building a Photography Portfolio

Before we get into what goes into your portfolio, let’s discuss the portfolio itself. What should it be made of? How big should it be? You may have seen portfolios with covers made of all types of materials such as plastic, leather and even stainless steel. These fancy covers are usually much more expensive and may not be practical for a beginner. If you are competing for high-price jobs and want to stand out from the crowd, these expensive covers may be a nice touch. But for most people, a regular black plastic cover will work just fine. It’s what’s inside the portfolio that is most important, right?

So, you are probably best to stick with a plain black plastic cover and work hard on beefing up what’s inside. Don’t decorate your portfolio with cutesy stickers and such; this will look amateurish and unprofessional. It’s not a scrapbook; it’s supposed to represent your high-quality work.

Now, as for size, this is going to depend on the size of your largest pictures. An 8 X 10 is probably going to be your largest. If your pictures are not this big, you don’t need a portfolio this big. Your biggest will most likely be an 11 X 14 and it could be as small as a 4 X 7.

The most important thing for you to remember is convenience – both for you and for the person who will be looking at your portfolio. You want to keep it professional and easy to hold, carry and look over.

Using a Photography Portfolio

So now that you know what a portfolio is and what type to get, how do you actually use it? Well, we mentioned you are going to fill it with your best work. This means you want a portfolio that can easily be changed. You may want to pull out old ones and add in new ones. You don’t want to go for a job carrying along every picture you’ve ever taken. You’re going to want to have 15-20 of your best work. You are also going to want to be sure your pictures are relevant to the job. If you are trying out for different types of assignments, you may want to create portfolios that work for each of the types of work you are doing.

Of course, you only want to show your best work but you want to give the impression that you can handle any type of assignment given to you ad not that you are “stuck” in only one type of photography.

You want to showcase your best work; this is best technically as well. You may have a photo that is really important to you because of the image it represents or the memory it brings but if it is not technically perfect, it doesn’t belong in a business portfolio. Save that one for your coffee table.
